Foliated
Foliated rocks are metamorphic rocks that have grains rearranged in parallel layers. The word "foliated" comes from the Latin word LEAF. It describes the flat, thin layering found in most foliated metamorohic rocks. Some examples of foliated rocks include Gneiss, Slate, Schist. Heat and pressure change a rock such as Shale into Slate. During the change minerals, like Mica, slowly form into the rock Slate.
